Sterile Processing Technician Training
The Sterile Processing program at Berkeley College-Woodland Park provides students with the essential knowledge and skills to become vital members of the healthcare team. This program equips graduates with the expertise to properly decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute medical instruments and equipment used in surgical procedures and other patient care settings. Students learn about microbiology, infection control, sterilization techniques (including steam, chemical, and other methods), and quality assurance. Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory simulations, and a clinical externship, students gain practical experience in a simulated sterile processing department. The program is meticulously designed to prepare students for national certification exams, such as the CRCST offered by HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM), opening doors to immediate employment opportunities in hospitals, surgical centers, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles as Sterile Processing Technicians, playing a critical role in ensuring patient safety by preventing infections and maintaining the integrity of surgical instruments.
